The Dwight D. Patterson Handicap honors one of Arizona’s most prominent breeders and owners in the Seventies and Eighties, who expanded his ranching interests into race horse breeding. An Arizona native, Patterson has been involved in the industry long before Turf Paradise racetrack in Phoenix became the hub of the state’s racing activity. Patterson was once on the Board of Directors of Turf Paradise and Hollywood Park, as well as the ATBA.
