Who’s the Diva Now turned in a front-running romp in her career debut to win the $25,300 Las Vegas Ranch S. for Arizona-bred 2-year-olds at Arizona Downs on Sept. 1. At 17-1, she was the most lightly regarded of a field largely composed of first-time starters, but the Lotsa Mischief filly opened up a commanding lead after setting the pace and had plenty in reserve for a three-length win in :57.84 for five furlongs. Kevin Eikleberry owns and trains the filly, who was bred by the William Matthews Family Trust.
Showstopper Effort, also making her career debut, had no luck at the start but after getting away last of eight, improved throughout to take a clear second from odds-on choice Arizona Sun, who had been a lengthy winner of the Debutante Stakes at Assiniboia Downs in her last outing.
