The highlight of the Oct. 19 card at Turf Paradise was the ATBA Fall Sales Stakes, run in divisions for fillies and for colts and geldings. ATBA Spring Sales Stakes winner Lazy Daisy May returned to dominate the filly division, dispensing with front-running My Fine Lady and romping to a five and a quarter-length victory as the odds-on choice of eight. Making her first start since her victory in the Spring Sales Stakes, the daughter of Rocky Bar was timed in 1:11.08 for six furlongs, almost exactly one second faster than the colt division of the event run a half-hour later. It was the second victory in three starts for the John Campo III-bred filly, now running for Stable HMA.
While the filly division featured a one-two finish of the two shortest-priced horses in the field, the colt and gelding division of the ATBA Fall Sales Stakes produced some surprises as late-running I Rock the Party edged Lawly’s Goal by a nose, passing most of the field in the final furlong to post a 34-1 upset. The Kentucky-bred Rock Hard Ten colt, now running for C J Racing LLC, earned his first victory in four starts after traveling six furlongs in 1:12.07.
Both Sales Stakes division winners were trained by Molly Pearson.
