The ATBA Fall Sales Stakes events, held on Nov. 4 at Turf Paradise, both featured authoritative winning favorites.
Foggia turned in a sparkling effort, with a front-running victory in the filly division in 1:09.62 for six furlongs – nearly a full second faster than the colt and gelding division contested two races later on the card. After turning back a pace challenge by Myrcella, Foggia raced on to win by three and a half lengths over Littlesisterdon’tu, who was in turn well clear of third-place Myrcella. Dan McFarlane trains the daughter of Rocky Bar for Sawyer Cattle Company; Filippo Santoro bred the winner.
Fortified Effort, just in behind the early leaders in his division, moved decisively as the field approached the turn to wrest the lead from Oh Brother Jack, who had emerged the leader after an early pace battle. Fortified Effort, a gelded son of Ez Effort bred by Fleming Thoroughbred Farm, was not threatened en route to a four-length victory over Oh Brother Jack in 1:10.52. Kevin Eikleberry trains for the combined ownership of Eikleberry, J. Lloyd Yother, William Matthews and Marvin Fleming.
