Arizona-bred youngsters swept the Lost in the Fog Juvenile and Arizona Juvenile Fillies Stakes, run Dec. 28 at Turf Paradise.
Avenging a loss to Annie’s Boy in the colts and geldings division of the Arizona Breeders’ Futurity earlier in the month, Arizona Jeremy reeled in the pacesetting Annie’s Boy to draw off by two lengths, setting a track record of 1:15:09 for the “about” six and half-furlong distance. It was his third win in six starts, and second stakes win, as he had also won the ATBA Fall Sales Futurity in November. Molly Pearson trains the Ez Effort gelding for Stable H M A.
Odds-on Annie’s Boy, who had come into the race undefeated in two starts, tired in the stretch to finish fifth.
Arizona Sun, who had won the fillies division of the Arizona Breeders’ Futurity, added a victory in the Arizona Juvenile Fillies Stakes in an impressive front-running effort that saw her finish three and a quarter lengths clear of her nearest pursuer. The time for the “about” six and a half-furlong distance was 1:17.75.
A five-time winner from eight career starts, Arizona Sun had also won the Debutante at Assiniboia Downs over the summer. Robertino Diodoro trains the daughter of Ministers Wild Cat for Randy Howg.
Both Arizona Jeremy and Arizona Sun were bred by Fleming Thoroughbred Farm.
