Veteran Arizona-bred Jamaican Memories, last seen finishing fourth behind Absolutely Cool in the Hank Mills Sr. Handicap last month, turned the tables in the $75,000 Phoenix Gold Cup on Feb. 13.
Sitting well back off a blazing early pace, Jamaican Memories ran on late to edge out Storm Power in the last inches of the six-furlong event. The final time was 1:07.73 for the 8-year-old Slew City Slew gelding.
Pacesetter Masterful Stride came into the stretch with the lead. Storm Power was the first to run him down, with Jamaican Memories in relentless pursuit. Race favorite Absolutely Cool, who had won the Hank Mills in last-to-first fashion, was along in time for third.
Bred by H & E Ranch, Jamaican Memories runs for Carol and James Bolin and is trained by David Van Winkle.

The Turf Paradise Handicap, run earlier on the Phoenix Gold Cup card, also featured an Arizona-bred winner in Rocked Twice.
Rocked Twice, a 5-year-old gelding by Rocky Bar, bred by Kevin R. Owens, led from the start and held off Ride Hard Kowboy by a half-length, while traveling a mile and a sixteenth on turf in 1:42.13.
Rocked Twice is trained by Dru Hall and is owned by Rick Reynolds.
