The ATBA Spring Sales Stakes almost looked like a match race between the two ATBA Spring Sales Stakes trial winners, Taste’s Secret and Chargin Bye, until deep stretch when Ez Deluxe, some five lengths behind the dueling pacesetters as they entered the stretch, mowed them down to win. Favored Taste’s Secret opened up three and a half lengths on Chargin Bye through the final eighth but fell a neck short of holding off Ez Deluxe at the wire.
Ez Deluxe broke near the front but stayed well back as Chargin Bye and Taste’s Secret drew away from the field in a tight, stride-for-stride battle. Just as Taste’s Secret began to move away from Chargin Bye in midstretch, Ez Deluxe swooped past. The final time for the five-furlong event was :59.05.
The winner, an Ez Dreamer colt out of Gallatin Gal bred by Fleming Thoroughbred Farm LLC and Tom Ramsey, had finished second to Taste’s Secret when both debuted in mid-April.
