The Gene Fleming Breeders’ Derby honors one of the most devoted and passionate owners and successful breeders in Arizona. As a founding member of the ATBA, Gene Fleming was part of this organization and the racing industry for more than five decades. Serving term after term as Board member and in every officer position, he was highly respected as a leader and cherished as a friend. Since Gene Fleming’s passing in February 2011, the most important black-type race for AZ-Breds carries his name, while his sons Marvin and Gerald with their respective families carry on his legacy at Fleming Thoroughbred Farm.
